A 24 months old Angus bull from the
Carrington
Park
stud at Drouin South in
Victoria
’s Gippsland has been crowned the Supreme Beef Exhibit at the 2009 Melbourne Royal.
The 964 kg Carrington Park Explosive C25 was exhibited by Mark and Sheryl Atkinson and was also senior champion Angus bull.
His sire MF Destroyer 093 was discovered by the Atkinsons on a trip to several years ago. They were so impressed they obtained exclusive Australian semen rights in partnership with high profile American Angus breeders, the Hoffs of Scotch Cap fame. Of the 900 straws of Destroyer semen imported, only 300 remain and there will be no further importations according to Mark Atkinson.
The Supreme Junior Beef Breed Heifer was the 13 months old KO Everelda Entense D154 exhibited by Theo Onisforou from Bowral, NSW. This result of an imported embryo was also junior and grand champion Angus female and supreme Angus exhibit on her way through to the interbreed award.
