More Sales for Stud Herefords
The chance to buy and sell New Zealand stud Herefords has just reached an exciting new level. The development of a “Trade-Me” style internet selling facility, called E-Herefords, provides a fresh new marketing opportunity for all NZHA herds to promote their cattle on a global level.
“New Zealand has the best Herefords in the world!” said Sam Hain, of Beanbah Herefords, Gisborne. “Now we have a simple, effective and cheap way to increase the number of Herefords that each of our studs sell.”
Sam quotes the success achieved by a similar, online selling system used by the American Hereford Association. “The Americans have been running on-line auctions, on their Hereford web-site, for over a year now. They hold a new auction every two months and their entries and prices have been getting better and better. We have been in contact with the Americans and are modeling our E-Herefords on their successful system.”
E-Herefords, has been initiated by NZ Hereford breeders and is open to all Hereford breeders to buy and sell anything Hereford related. Entries are catalogued on the NZHA web sale catalogues and the online auction will commence in early April. The auction will run up to coincide with the Beef Expo and is designed to create a broad interest within the NZ farming industry, international interest and promotion for Expo’s live Hereford lots. It is even anticipated that E-Herefords will include a request page, where the public can suggest animals, semen, etc that they would like to buy.
“We all have Herefords to sell in 2010, so we all have something that will fit on E-Herefords”, said Sam. “It is the best marketing bang for your buck!”
E-Herefords has already attracted the 2006 high selling stud sire Kiwi Zabest Z3. The four way trait-leader sold for $37,000 and has since had semen used throughout NZ and Australia and a son sell at Beef Expo for $10,000. With an open reserve, Z3 is set to be “Zabest bargain for 2010”.
